without comments

With team U.S.A.’s award winning 2010 squad and a surprisingly large audience for the 2010 World Cup, it’s no wonder Doug Band and the U.S. Bid committee wish to bring the event to the United States in 2018. Hopes are high, and Americans are continuing to clinch to the idea more than ever.

With close to 1,000,000 followers, the team has proven to fellow patriots and soccer fans alike, that the U.S. is extremely anxious to host the 2018/2022 World Cup. The board is populated figures like The Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg; Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and President Clinton’s personal advisor, Doug Band. Through their campaigns, The Bid Committee exercises certain ideals to bring together a nation that has gradually accepted this widely viewed international sport. Some of these ideals include the following:

  • Unity
  • Spirit
  • Open-mindedness
  • Disambiguation

Similarly, winning the bid would improve the U.S.’s international representation. “In all my years traveling around the world, I have witnessed soccer as the one thread that many cultures and people have in common,” said Doug Band. “The idea of utilizing the most popular sport in the world to drive awareness towards pressing social and environmental issues is important to me on a personal level. Joining the USA Bid Committee to bring the World Cup back to our country is an honor.” The committee hopes to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States as soon as 2018.

Band was asked to join the board because of the far-reaching work he has done with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) – He has attained valuable experience in foreign affairs. Taking a step back, Band founded this powerful organization in 2005, alongside Former President Clinton. Since that time, has reached out to millions across the world by providing medical aid, education opportunities, and environmental protection. The CGI focuses on global issues like health, renewable energy, poverty and more.

The last time America hosted The World Cup (1994 – U.S.), there was attendance of nearly 3.6 million, a record that remains to this day. Rightly so, FIFA stated that by hosting the 1994 World Cup, the popularity of the sport was ultimately catalyzed and domesticated. Similarly, citizens felt as if the MLS (1996), would have been an entirely different enterprise.

The U.S. bid committee is resolute in acquiring their goal of a U.S. Hosted 2018/2022 World Cup, and are consciously working to make that aspiration a truth. If the United States wins the bid, it would be a gift to our national image and soccer!
